I love the opening explanations by Dereque Kelley. The best out there!

This is a very intuitive and useful app for players who want to improve and learn new openings. Good alternative to books for intermediate players.

This is very helpful, Im learning a lot about chess openings and the strategies on how to be successful.

Very good app for the price and has a very extensive database of openings. Kelley is very enthusiastic in the videos and doesnt put me to sleep like some other guys that do videos on YouTube. The only thing that I would fix really is the search engine. I think the engine should have a way to sort by section. For example when I search Sicilian defense, it only shows me a few of the variations and some repeats. The only way to find a specific variation is if you typed the specific section number or the name of the variation. Or categorize each major opening and have sub categories for each variation under them. Otherwise excellent app and cant beat it for the price. Would recommend it to all players beginner,club and masters

I was hesitant to purchase this app, but hands down the best purchase Ive ever made on the App Store. The apps creator did an excellent job with this one. Highly recommend if you want to improve your opening positions.

This is a super and easy to understand guide to popular chess openings. Dereque is a really good teacher! The only complaint I have is the audio shift when only the chess board is shown, it gets slightly flat and muffled.

Good overview of openings and a good refresher of opening concepts.

Dereques videos are great at explaining the whys of the openings. The database of openings is also very useful.

This is a terrific tool to learn the openings. For starters ....beautiful production qualities. But the best part is the chess --- great presentation of the key ideas and main lines of each opening. The scripts show an excellent use of instructional design and there is good use of visuals (e.g lines and highlighted squares) to reinforce concepts. At times the discussion moves a bit too fast for beginners (like me) but this is not a problem as it will be profitable to re-watch these videos many times to re-force the content. As one who grew up slogging through books (in the 70s) ---- this video series featuring Mr. Kelly is an engaging and effective tool. Highly recommended.

Cant access the videos screen after updating to iOS 7. It shows blank white page.

Its great to learn openings, however it would be nice to have arrow buttons to navigate with, coordinates, a back arrow key for if we make the wrong move accidentally, and maybe a little color would be nice. 5 stats from me though.finally one with landscape view!

Dereque Kelley is excellent at communicating a wide range of chess openings in an accessible way. The comprehensive statistics and videos make it easy to learn at your own pace and write notes for each position. Its like getting first hand lessons from a chess master with a passion for the game. Highly recommended!

I really like the videos offered with this app, helped me learn some good Openings. Easy to navigate and find what I need. The app has been improving since newer updates. App ran sluggish before, but is running smoother. I have a iPhone 4 so this matters a lot for my hardware. The opening book chess book needs navigational keys like play button, rewind and forward. Its a little hard to move through piece moves. I am sure this isnt much of a problem with a iPad. Other than minor things, this is a really good App to have to learn openings. The videos are well worth it.
